He already had a Bachelor’s Degree, but Boris Hurst decided that wasn’t enough education to educate others, is he went on to obtain a Master of Education degree from Cambridge University and an Educational Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. Following that, Boris Hurst embarked on a teaching career with Atlanta Public Schools. He started that career by educating students at Archer and Booker T. Washington High Schools.

However, soon after that, Boris Hurst decided he wanted a greater challenge, so he shifted his career to administration, serving as principal at both George Washington Carver High School and D.M. Therrell High School. At the Therrell High Educational Complex, Boris Hurst was principal of The School of Business and Entrepreneurship, where he implemented the Senior Seminar Series. That program was designed to prepare more students for the college application process. A highlight of his administrative career was the 2009-2010 school year, when, as principal for Booker T. Washington High School Senior Academy, where he was able to help produce at least ten Gates Millennium Scholars and obtain more than $15 million in scholarships for the Senior Class. Washington High School also achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under his leadership for the first time in five years.
